Going Beyond Ebooks - Adding Value & Usability To Your Info Product

Why Your Customer Benefits from Different Information Formats:

People learn and like to consume information in different ways. Many people do like to read and printed reports or ebooks will do the trick for them. Others like to listen to information. They may want to download audios to their mp3 players, burn them to CDs so they can listen in the car or listen on their computer while they attend to other tasks. Some people may prefer to watch and you may even want to include video in your information products.

Why YOU Benefit from Different Information Formats:

When you offer different formats, you can increase the perceived value of your products. A product that is just a downloadable PDF may not be seen as valuable as a product that offers an ebook, audio recording and transcripts. This means, you can charge more for your information product...increasing your bottom line.

You can also reach more customers with your multi-media information product. Some people won't buy ebooks because they'd prefer to listen. Others may have slow Internet connections and can't easily download mp3s, so they would rather have typed information they can read. There are so many reasons why customers prefer different formats and it's easy to provide those formats...so why not go the extra mile.

Keep in mind accessibility. People with visual impairments may find it easier to listen to your audio and those with hearing impairments wouldn't be able to listen to your audio. Don't limit their options.

And Don't Just Limit Yourself to One Product:

It's tough to make a great living off just one information product and if you make a great product, your customers are going to want more. So, when you're creating your first information product, make a plan for additional ebooks. These can give more in-depth information on certain topics, could contain more advanced techniques or anything that your target customer would be interested in.

Alternatively, if you can't develop your own line of products immediately, ensure that you have some backend sales lined up and recommend further products through affiliate links. Always make the most of your marketing efforts!

Blogs vs. Content-Sites

Done with that, then it's about building the site, putting web pages together and getting a domain name and web hosting.

After that, you go around looking for link partners.

I suppose most people understand what a blog is. But just in case for some newbie readers, I'll try to explain what it is. A blog is a site that contains articles after articles written one after the other. The content is not being written all in one go upfront. But it is rather being updated along the way.

A blog lists the articles in a chronology manner, being the latest, the first. MoneyClicking.net is a blog. A blog is normally supported by a system or a script. You can use Blogger.com (remote hosted), Wordpress (PHP script), Movable Type (Perl script), etc.

Anyway, back to the topic. I was on the phone with my friend, we concluded it's better to have a blog because it's easier to get traffic with it.

Why? Well, there are some mechanics of a blog and also the culture of blogging that makes it much easier.

For one thing - it's easier to get incoming links. Let me tell you how.

Reason #1: Blog Ping

First of all, there's this thing called - PING. With a blog ping, when ever you write a new article in your blog, you can set addresses to a few ping sites to tell them that you just updated your blog. When you do that, you'll get a link back to your site. Ping sites are like Technorati.com and BlogRolling.com. News sites like MSN News, Yahoo News and MoreOver, also have ping addresses.

Now, maybe you won't be listed very long on that page, because many other blogs are also pinging to those sites. But more or less, it'll help. I've gone through my web statistics and traffic do come from the sites that I pinged.

Reason #2: Trackback

Secondly, there's also TRACKBACK. Now, I was with a friend explaining how trackbacks work last week. Now I'll tell you. With blogs, for every article that you write, there will be a unique URL for it. And for each article, there's also a unique trackback URL. Whenever you are at another person's blog, look for trackback URL, and you may want to copy it.

Now here's how you use a trackback URL. Let say you are at somebody else's blog. And he just wrote about something about cat grooming. And somehow, you feel that you have something to say about what he wrote - and you know, what you want to say will be very long which may not be suitable for a comment. So you write your own message at your blog, and lower down the interface, you enter the other guy's trackback URL, and then you hit the Submit button.

Now, that new article will appear on your blog. And because you put in a trackback URL, a part of your article will also appear in the other guy's article as a comment. And that comment links directly back to your article. So that's how trackbacks work.

Reason #3: Blog Comments

Now, my third point on why blog is better than content-site - Blog Comments. This is where you able to go around at other blog sites and write some comments on articles. And you even leave a link back to your site. But here's the thing, just make sure that your comments are genuine, because now days, there are too many people spamming blog comments just to get a link back.

Reason #4: Bloggers' Linking Habit

OK, here's some more. This is more a blogging culture thing - bloggers like to link to each other. If your blog is interesting, it's easy to get other bloggers to link back to you. Whether you ask for it on your website, or sometimes they just simply give you a link back. I've got this many times, and most of the times, they link back write to a specific message. And sometimes, they just list blog sites that they like on their website.

Reason #5: Faster SE Indexing

This is getting quite long already. But I am not done. When it comes to getting traffic, you may not realize this, but it's easier to get indexed in the search engines with a blog. I don't know why - perhaps it's because incoming links are more natural and you don't really go around asking for them. And when the incoming links are more natural, I think search engine will prefer it a lot more.

I myself have experienced where new content on my blog was indexed in under seven days.

Reason #6: Repeat Visitors

Now, after you get traffic from search engines, ping sites, and other blogs, later you'll start to realize that 80-90% of your visitors are repeat visitors. It's common with a blog. So the point is with this one - it's easier to retain visitors with a blog.

You get huge traffic from multiple sources - and the ones you already have you get to keep. This is different from content-sites, where you really so much on search engine traffic.

Blogging Seems Much More Fun ...

In my experience, starting from scratch, in six month, a content-site may or may not reach to mark of 1000 visitors per day. And it takes serious hours writing content and building incoming links. I have multiple sites consistently doing 100-200 visitors per day, after six month. But with a blog, it's not unusual if a blog reaches 3000 visitors per day, provided you give good content.

But I suppose, it all boils down to which you are comfortable with.

Realizing this, I may be planning differently in the future - but I am not certain on that yet. From the looks of it, blogging seems much more fun. You write about what you like, and you network with other bloggers. And the writing part becomes much, much easier with scripts like WordPress and Movable Type. Not much designing, no uploading files, less link building, etc ...

With building content-sites, you still have to build the website again, upload them up to your web hosting, build incoming links, etc ...

This is my opinion. And you may not think the same way I do, based on your personal experience and knowledge. I respect that.

Where To Get Content For Your Blog

The best way would be to provide the content yourself, and this is of utmost importance if your goal is to try to create traffic to an affiliated link. You'll definitely want to sell the idea about the services and products beforehand. What that will do is set the stage or the "mood" and give your recommendations authenticity.

Expounding on the uses of a particular service or product, with your own likes and dislikes, achieves this naturally. With an affiliate program, it is a good idea to have a personal anecdote that goes hand in hand with the product or service.

Using private label articles is a viable alternative. PL articles abound in the Internet and you can always buy some that are connected to your central topic and then place them in your blog. One way of maximizing a purchased PLA is to cut it down into several pieces, thereby maximizing its content.

Utilizing RSS feeds to post on blogs is becoming very popular, although not everyone is familiar or willing to learn about RSS feeds. The advantage to an RSS feed is that your blog is automatically updated with fresh news and content. The disadvantage is that it is not unique content and that anybody interested in the feed will likely click out on a story that appeals to them.

Putting in your very own content is the best way to go. One way to find fresh ideas is to look for an appealing news article and then do a summary write-up based on it. It's not as easy as it sounds, but you and your readers will find it the most rewarding way. If you feel that you just don't cut it as a writer or you genuinely don't have the time, then hire someone else to do it for you. There are many services out there who provide a "blog service" which includes daily posts of unique, engaging content and you can instruct these content writers as to where you want the links in your blog pointing to- so that any burden of cost in terms of hiring them should be offset by the gains in your increased visitor base, the marketing of your other websites and earnings from your affiliate programs.

These are the best ways to generate content for your blog. It is advisable not to be going with the automated path. If you do decide to do that, you will probably have plenty of content- but the substance of the text is unlikely to increase traffic for you. Putting in some good, old-fashioned content work will yield better results for you. As the expression goes- "you get out what you put in…."!!

Building Backlink through Forum

There is no doubt that quality backlinks from relevant sites are important for SEO success. If a page has good content, other websites will start linking to it in a natural manner; this is the main hypothesis for including backlinks as part of the search engine ranking algorithms. Thus, a page with better content will naturally have more backlinks, and will rank better. However, in practice, one will have go for other ways of gaining relevant quality backlinks, as a part of hisSEO strategy.

Getting listed in web directories, article directories, posting in forums, and blogs are some of the acceptable methods of acquiring quality backlinks. Generally, search engines index forums frequently, so posting in forums is a good way to gain quality backlinks with the anchor text of your choice. While submitting articles to directories can be a time consuming process, it does not require much effort and time to post in forums; however, one has to do his homework and take some precautions in order to be successful using forums for gaining backlinks.

You must do some research before joining any forum. You should join forums that are relevant to the sites you want to get backlinks for. You should only choose forums that are popular and active. Backlinks for high authority forums are very valuable. The number of active members and the Google PageRank of the forum can give you a good idea about its popularity. You should keep your signature short and link it to your main website. You should never create posts that sound like a propaganda or which are irrelevant to the post topic. You should pay attention to the TOS of the forum, or you will risk yourself of getting banned and losing all the backlinks you built.

If you post something which is important or useful to other readers, they will visit the site in your signature. Thus, posting in forums can give a significant traffic to your website, apart from building relevant backlinks. Forums are also good for creating your brand or image รข€“ Some of the best bloggers, Internet Marketers and SEOs spend a significant time posting on forums to increase their publicity. SEOs like Aaron Wall became famous through the platform of SEO forums. That is another benefit you may get from forum posting apart from using it for link development strategy.

5 Common Blogging Mistakes

Blogging Mistakes

You’re trying to get your blog off the ground. You write diligently, you keep publishing new posts, you check your stats obsessively – but you’re just not seeing the success that you expected.

I'm sure you do a lot of things. You show up, work hard, read about blogging and try to use what you learn.  However, it's difficult to remember everything. It’s hard to always get it right. Today I will go through on common mistakes that bloggers, make when posting. None of these are hard to fix. But, for your readers, they can be deal-breakers.

Do you making any of these mistakes?

Mistake #1: Writing Posts With No Point

If you are serious to earn money with blogging to promote your business, and / or received a number of readers - then every message you write, is to have a point. Too often I see the blog posts that aren't go nowhere. They are like diary entries, this is what happened to me today, and that's what I think about. Now there's nothing wrong with that - if you want, your blog is a personal diary. If you’re hoping to reach a wider audience, though, your posts need to have a point.
  • Have a clear topic, reflected in a compelling title
  • Deliver something valuable to the reader – whether that’s entertainment or information
Mistake #2: Posting Inconsistently

A lot of bloggers start out posting daily – and then end up letting weeks go by without a post. You do not need o post every day. Yes, many blogs (it’s Daily Blog Tips for a reason…) but when you start, you can set once a week or once every two weeks.

The most important thing is that you can post consistently. Figure out a comfortable writing routine that works for you: maybe two posts each week. Ideally, you want to give yourself a bit of slack, so that you can get ahead and “bank” posts for busier times.

Mistake #3: Forgetting to Proof-Read

When you’re rushing to get a post out – or when you’re getting really into your writing – it’s easy to go so fast that you hit the wrong key, or accidentally type the wrong word. Your readers won’t expect your posts to be flawless – but they will be put off by constant typos and spelling mistakes. If your posts look sloppy and slap-dash, this reflects badly on your content: you might be an expert in your subject, but readers won’t have much confidence in your words.

After you write a post, take a few minutes to read it through. Even better, swap draft posts with a fellow blogger: it’s often easier to spot other people’s typos than your own.

Mistake #4: Ignoring Formatting

Every so often, I’ll come across a blog that looks like a dull mass of grey text. The blogger might have written a brilliant post – but I probably won’t read it (and the same goes for other readers).

Make your post look attractive, so that readers don’t get put off before they’ve even begun. Use subheadings, bold text, lists, and short paragraphs to improve readability: the more white space, the better.

And if all of that sounds like too much work, at least bump up your font size. This one tiny change can make a huge difference.

Mistake #5: Publishing Without Promoting

Your blog could be full of laugh-out-loud anecdotes and brilliantly-valuable information … but that’s no good if readers never find it.

When you publish a post, don’t just sit back and think that you’ve finished. You need to promote that post – which could mean Tweeting it, mentioning it on Facebook, emailing it to any friends who might be interested (don’t overdo this), asking a few other bloggers to link to it, entering it into a blogging carnival, mentioning it in your guest post bio… and so on.

Are you making any of these five mistakes? Or have you got your blogging sorted? Share your blogging successes – and lessons learned – in the comments below…

If you know your writing skills could do with a brush-up, you’ll want to check out Ali Luke’s ebook The Blogger’s Guide to Effective Writing, described by Colin Beveridge as “full of the tricks the pros use so that bloggers like me can put together posts and series that look halfway competent.” Read all about it here.
